People have lots of questions about acupuncture and Chinese medicine. We'd like to answer a few them.

How often do I need to take Chinese medicine?

Chinese medicine works by promoting the overall balance in the body. How long you take a particular medicine depends on the severity of your condition and how your body responds to treatment. It's best to take the medicine for a long enough period of time (say 2 to 4 weeks), to determine whether you are benefiting from it. Also try to take one medicine at a time, so that you can see which herbs work best for you.

How frequently should I take the medicine?

Take herbal supplements 2 to 3 hours after taking other medications. Always consult with a physician before taking any herbal supplements.

Can I take Chinese medicine in addition to or instead of western medicine?

There is no easy answer to this question. We recommend that you always consult your physician before using any herbal remedies if you have a known serious health problem. Chinese medicine can often be used in conjunction with western medicine, and can provide healthful benefits such as improving overall strength and bodily functioning. Used correctly, Chinese medicine can be an important supplement to western medicine, and great for maintaining your health.

Is Chinese medicine safe?

Chinese medicine is generally safe if used as directed. It is more gentle than western medicine. DAAN's products uses only natural ingredients and we carefully select our suppliers to ensure that you receive only the highest quality tonics and medicines.

Is acupuncture painful?

Pain is a very subjective sensation. Some people are more tolerant of pain that others. During an acupuncture treatment, one ought to feel some sensation from the needles. These sensations are an essential element of the acupuncture therapy. But most people are able to tolerate these sensations.

What is acupuncture and how does it work?

Acupuncture treatment is aimed at regulating the flow of Qi (pronounced "chee") and blood through the body. In traditional Chinese medicine, qi and blood are circulated in pathways called meridian and collaterals.

Meridians are the main trunks of the body and run longitudinally within the body. Collaterals are branches of the meridians and run transversely and superficially from the meridians. Through the pathway of the meridians and collaterals, Zang-fu organs such as the skin, muscles, tendons and bones are nourished. During an acupuncture treatment, the systems of the meridians and collaterals assume the responsibility for transmitting needling sensations and thereby regulating deficient or excess conditions.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance?

More and more insurance companies are beginning to recognize the benefits derived from acupuncture and are adding it as part of the regular benefits package. Currently, we accept the following insurance plans: Accu Plus, Health and Healing Card (HHC), Consensus Health, American Specialty Networks and Landmark ACUNET.

How many treatments do I need before I see results?
