British TV celeb Fern Britton is off to study acupuncture in the New Year.
She’s made no secret of using antidepressants to keep herself on an ‘even keel’.
But it seems Fern Britton might also be investigating alternative therapies.
Having suffered a stormy few months since quitting the daytime show that made her a star she has decided to do a degree in acupuncture.
The 52-year-old, who left This Morning in July after ten years, will start studying for a BSc in the Chinese therapy in the New Year.
It comes after she suffered the blow of having her new panel show, As Seen On TV, axed by BBC chiefs after just one series.
A close friend said: ‘It wasn’t easy to leave This Morning behind and just move on but Fern is enjoying spending more time with her family.
‘She’s doing lots of different things and next year she wants to study for a BSc in acupuncture.
‘She is really interested in the subject and has told all of us that will be one of her top priorities for 2010.’
Miss Britton has also got a book deal to write a fictional account of life behind the scenes in TV, which has to be finished by the summer.
Acupuncture is the procedure of inserting and manipulating threadlike needles into various points on the body to relieve pain or for therapeutic purposes. It is claimed it can help tackle depression and anxiety.
