Liver Qi
Chinese medicine associates particular body organs with seasons. Spring is liver season: "The liver is an important filter for the body's blood, removing toxins and other wastes while refreshing and purifying the blood. Chinese medicine holds that the liver Qi (pronounced chee and meaning energy) is stronger during the spring, so all the beneficial functions of this organ are stronger too. At the same time, any liver dysfunction is also amplified. Spiritually, the liver is responsible for the one's self-assertive power, the power to make plans and put them into action, and is crucial in helping the individual make choices and to use appropriate self-restraint in varying circumstances. If the liver Qi is stagnant or out of harmony with another organ system, it doesn't function well. Liver Qi stagnation can be caused by many different things (stress, food, pollution, mental or spiritual health) and can bring on depression or anger-related states, such as increased irritability or aggression, and can cause headaches, nail fungus, eye problems and fibroid masses. In light of this, it seems like a good idea during spring to try to support the liver in its functions, which will also revive and renew the Qi." DAAN carries some good supplements for the liver, including Lidan Tablets, Lung Tan Xie Gan Pill, and Shou Wu Pian. If you need some help, contact us.
